MCNAIRY REGIONAL ALLIANCE SHOWCASES THE PLANS FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

The McNairy Regional Alliance and The Alliance of Alcorn County have collaborated in a project to promote economic development in the two counties.  The centerpiece of the project is a DVD presenting the local attributes that are most attractive to business and industry. McNairy County Regional Alliance Executive Director Ted Moore recently introduced the project to area leadership.

Major funding for the project was provided through a grant from USDA Rural Development.  Additional funding was provided by West Tennessee Industrial Association.

The project included developing a professional documentary that features several video interviews with local leaders to create a compelling story that explains the economic development process. These interviewees include local industry leaders, education leaders, as well as regional, state, and local economic development partners.

The goals of the project are to contribute to a better understanding of the competitive factors which American industry faces today, and what local industries must do to remain competitive. It will also contribute in the promotion of local economic development programs in the project area. It provides examples of how rural American communities are better focusing their resources on business recruitment in line with current economic development principles and practices. Both organizations plan to use this documentary as a local educational tool and as an outreach tool for marketing the region.

Another outcome of the project will be a website with streaming video that will allow the public, businesses, and economic developers to access the video and other economic development information at any time. The site will be maintained for a minimum of two years and will be used to attract internet traffic to the economic development agencies in Alcorn County , Mississippi and McNairy County , Tennessee .

The screening of the documentary was held Thursday, September 10, at “The Marty” in Adamsville , TN. The documentary will be distributed in DVD form to targeted businesses and site location consultants across the United States .
